Oncology

This disease stands on the second place of frequency (after cardiovascular diseases) that leads to death. Cancer diagnostics

One of the most modern irradiation methods of patients with tumors is preliminary computed diagnostics that allows making 3D image of the tumor.

Apart from this, said method gives information regarding electronic density of the tissues. This helps to choose the necessary way of radio therapeutic treatment. Positron emission tomography is recently used for this purpose; it gives extra information of biological processes inside the tumor. These technologies allow to carry out irradiation only of the tumor and not to touch healthy tissues.

Methods of oncology treatments

Surgical treatment

Surgical treatment is the most commonly used method of oncology treatment. 40% of the diseases are treated like this. Radical surgeries are those when the tumors are fully extracted. Palliative surgeries are the operations when the tumor is not fully extracted, that makes life of the patient much brighter. After the surgery on mammary gland or skin, some plastic surgeries can be applied, that correct the vivid defects.

Radiation therapy.

Radiation therapy or X-ray therapy is the procedure of irradiation the tumor by X rays. The tumor cells are dying when X rayed, and healthy cells stay safe. Radiation therapy is carried out with the surgical treatment and chemotherapy. This method is considered to be pre surgical or post surgical.

If it is used before surgery, the scope of disease is lessening and the local control is getting more efficient.

The duration of each radiation treatment is 5 minutes. This therapy is carried out once in 2-3 weeks, when applying special methods – not more than in 5 days.

Chemotherapy

Chemotherapy is the method of using medical drugs for decreasing tumor growth. His therapy is carried out with the help of modern drugs. For the treatment the chemotherapy with big doses of drugs are used and thus it gives better effects than chemotherapy of the average doses. In some cases the chemotherapy of big drug doses can be accompanied by the autogenic reinfusion of the blood cells. The tumor cells are being killed influenced by this treatment coarse. Preventive chemotherapy kills the hidden cancer parts after surgery and radiation methods.

There are several chemotherapeutic drugs, ways of its application and usage.

None of the chemotherapy can be carried out without supportive therapy, because chemotherapy itself has lots of side effects and make hard effect on patients’ health. Very effective and costly drugs are used for supportive therapy; they protect liver, lungs, kidneys, urinary bladder, and heart. There are also antifungal and antibacterial drugs that support marrow and lessen the common intoxication.

Chemotherapy of course can be used when needed with other methods of treatment of oncology diseases.

Hormonotherapy

Hormonotherapy is the method of treatment based on the usage of hormone and antihormone drugs. The treatment is used with curing the mammary gland and prostates tumors.

Gamma knife

This unique method allows treating cerebrum tumors including metastases without surgery and long term cerebrum radiation.
The frequent usage of this method is explained by the fact that it is the only method of cerebrum treatment.

Immunotherapy
The usage of this method is growing among others. The core of this method is in the specific immune reaction on some proteins exposing on the surface of the cancer cells. Immune system of the body doesn’t differentiate between the cancer and common cells, because the difference between them is actually only from outer side. Meanwhile cancer tissues have specific proteins apart form usual cells.
Finding antibodies to this proteins and injecting them to blood (or force immune system to produce antibodies) can stop tumor growth and kill cancer cells.
Immune therapy method based on delivery the cancer killer-drug to the cancer cell with the help of antibodies is also very effective.
By way of genetically engineered method the special protein is created, it consists of monoclinic antibody and protein-killer. This protein can recognize cancer cells, connect to them and inject its killing part inside the cells, killing it.

Genome therapy
It is based on giving common cells the ability to produce specific anticancer agent, for example, antibodies.

Focused Ultrasound Method
It is used in treating prostate cancer. Ultrasound of high intensity influences on the tissues locally. The tumor is being burned out without damaging the direct intestine walls. (This method was invented in German clinics).

Method of radiotherapy intensity modulation.
The core of this method is virtual division of the tumor on many sections and the rays’ influence on this section with different intensity, the power depends upon the distance between the tumor and the source of irradiation. Judging by the opinion of the specialists, it is possible to crush the tumor situated in the places difficult to reach with the help of this method.

Transplantation of marrow and stem cells.
Chemotherapy together with irradiation crushes both damaged cells and blood stem cells in the marrow. After transplantation of the stem cells the blood circulation which is vitally important can be restored. Stem cells are added to restore immune system and blood circulation after chemotherapy. By allogenic transplantation the stem cells of the donor are injected. Transplantation of the stem cells is only possible in the specific oncology centers and with the help of high qualified doctors. The method is nowadays very frequently used in all the oncology centers of university clinics.
